Today we welcome writer A.M. Dassu at 12pm SLT. Her debut YA novel “Boy, Everywhere” tells the story of Syrian refugee Sami, whose journey to the UK is one of pain and heartship. Spoiler alert: as he arrives in his new adopted home country, the cheer of welcoming is drowned out by a climate dominated by suspicion towards refugees, among other challenges ... A wonderful empowering story, a prime example that representation in children’s literature matters and proof [do we really need more?] that good storytelling can create deep and lasting empathy for human beings with a different life story than our own!
