Ken Liu , a veteran of the Second Life Book Club, is back at 12pm SLT. And today we are not talking excellent short stories and the vast portfolio of translations, we are FINALLY tackling what Draxtor calls “War and Peace for the epic fantasy fan”. Yes: if I were asked, I would most definitely place “The Dandelion Dynasty” Saga, currently comprising 4 volumes, starting with “The Grace of Kings” and culminating in the latest, entitled : ”Speaking Bones” amongst some of the maximalist canon in terms of scope and ambition.

The incredibly detailed history of the fictional island kingdom of Dara, thousands of pages of going back and forth in time as contained in these 4 big tombs, the complexity of palace intrigue, the deep philosophical ruminations over matters of governance, warfare and friendship, the ponderings over many pages about the origin and purpose of men, the role of religion in public and private life, justification and condeming of colonial pursuits, war begetting more war and and and … should this series be taught in civics class and political science courses? Quite possibly.
